Day 27: Red Coat Tavern
I had dinner here on Saturday January 28th, 2012
Red Coat Tavern is a well known favorite here in the Metro Detroit area, I had unfortunately been here. My group showed up at a little after six and the place was standing room only. We had called ahead and they began getting us a table, when we finally sat down we took short gander at the menu, and we all decided on what we were getting.
I ordered "The Brasserie Burger" which was recently named Michigan's #1 Gourmet Burger by the Detroit Free Press. I just had to try it. The burger is described as: Brioche bun, Bacon (thick cut), Swiss Gruyere, caramelized onions, watercress, tomato and Dijon mustard.
The burger came out and it looked spectacular to say the least. Tall, Dripping with juice, but not sloppy I was very excited to try it. Today I didn't even bother with the catsup (Yeah that's right no catsup), I hoisted Michigan's #1 burger and took a bite.
With a mouth full of food I could easily see why this was Michigan's #1, It was juicy, beautifully seasoned and grilled to a perfect medium. I have to say I was quite impressed it was all so good, very well balanced, you got a bit of everything in every bite, and even the bun was toasted.
This place knows how to do a burger, this particular burger was the only one that was "Pre-Made" on the menu, everything else was a build your own with an endless list of toppings. I cant say enough good things about this place because they just wouldn't do it justice.
This place is a must if you are ever in metro Detroit.
P.S. The calamari rocks
