This is the hardest review that I've had to write so far. My dilemma is do you rate the restaurant and the burger or do you judge only the meat? I think the only way to give an accurate description of what you're in for is to describe both.
First lets start with the restaurant. Colt & Gray is a trendy, expensive, pompous restaurant with questionable service. When we first walked into the half empty restaurant to be seated at 7:30pm we were informed that all of the empty tables would be full until 10pm. They then informed us that if we wanted to eat that we must sit outside where they had tables setup on the sidewalk. That would normally be fine except that it was almost dark, 55 degrees, and the heat lamp was broken. On top of that, almost all of the people that arrived after us were sat inside where it was warm. They clearly wanted people outside simply to draw attention to their location. As for the rest of the meal, the beers were $8-$10, the service was slow, and the waiter had the nerve to say, "Our entrees take a long time to come out so you probably want to order an appetizer." As my friend remarked, most people would get fired from their restaurant job if they ever said that to a customer.
You get the idea about the restaurant so lets talk about the burger. It's $14 but damn it was good. I really struggled with the rating due to the service and the price but I felt like my burger came closer to 5 stars than to 4. In fact just writing this review makes me want to go back and try it again. And I will have to try it again because my friend ordered the same exact burger, cooked exactly the same way and his was dry and overcooked while mine was close to perfect. That seems a little strange to me so I'll have to return and see if they have done anything to improve their consistency. In the end it looks like I'm rating the burger.
