The Cherry Cricket

The Cherry Cricket has a reputation for serving up one of the best burgers around. Needless to say, this was the first stop right off my flight into Denver. The Cricket did not disappoint. The burger was well seasoned and grilled just right. The huge selection of toppings made for a difficult decision as to what type of burger would best satisfy post-flight hunger. Bacon and avocado was a good choice. I would definitely make myself a regular here.

Went to "The Cricket" for the Super Bowl and got the Sunday "Burger and Fries" special. I guess there are two different size burgers and this was the bigger one. Let me just say, this burger was delicious. Perfect amount of juiciness/greasiness with good flavor and I liked that you can pick your own toppings.

Two warnings:
1) This burger was huge and I was insanely full afterward (almost couldn't drink my Guinness, but don't worry, I got it down).
2) They cook their burgers more rare than other places. For example, I ordered medium-well (I would normally order a medium) and it was cooked how I like it.

Another top notch burger. When I first came to Denver, everyone said that I had to go to the Cricket because they had the best burger in town. I'm not sure if it's the best (see my review of Bang!) but it certainly is a five star burger. Everything was perfect and the burger was huge! They offer a dizzying array of sides so you'll probably be able to build your perfect meal. I can't wait to take some out of town visitors there for the burger and a pitcher of beer.

Time for full disclosure. I have been going to this restaurant my whole life, my mom went to school with the woman who started it, and I worked there for over 3 years. Needless to say, I'm a little biased. There has been an ongoing debate in Denver as to who really deserves the title of best burger in town. This debate has basically oscillated between two camps: The Cherry Cricket and everyone else. If you look at the score board the Cricket has probably accrued more awards from more publications than anyone else. But, as any burger connoisseur knows the most press doesn't always mean the best. To put my 5 stars into perspective, I ate at this restaurant at least 4 days a week for over 36 months and during that time I ate, and enjoyed, a burger at least one day a week. These burger sandwiches have staying power.
