I originally saw The Heart Attack on a Plate on Bobby Flay's "50 States, 50 Burgers" website. At first I was extremely skeptical of the Maryland selection for a number of reasons. For one, this is Mother's which isn't exactly known for it's excellent cuisine. Two, I had recently been to the Abby Burger Bistro down the street and had eaten some fantastic burgers there. Three, we're talking about the best burger in Maryland. How could it possibly be in downtown Baltimore?
After looking at it on the website for a few months I decided that I had to try it. I have to admit that I was a little scared to eat a burger that had been deep fried and injected with cheddar cheese. It's listed as only 8oz but when they bring it to the table it looks much much larger.
I'm here to say that Bobby Flay knows what he is talking about. This burger exceeded every single expectation and tastes like no other burger that I have ever eaten. The fried skin is really light. The cheese evenly distributed while not overwhelming. And the meat itself is moist and it falls apart in your mouth as you eat it. I was expecting something heavy and greasy that sat in your stomach but this was light and delicious. I think it's saying something when I say that this is only the second burger that I have ever rated a 5. Well done Mother's.
